Your assessment - fully supported by our academic team - helps us make sure you're on the right track. Your degree has been designed to provide a mix of assessment approaches, including:
- Consultancy Project/Events Project
- Reflective statements
The Consultancy Project in Level 6 of the Hotel Management degree gives you an in-depth insight into a hospitality organisation as you work as part of a small team of students on a specific problem or opportunity. Using research, you will work as a consultant for that organisation and then present your findings and recommendations at the end of the project.
The Events Project in Level 6 of the Events Management degree consists of an individual report, a presentation and a group report focusing on a real-life event with an external client.
Many of our students have been offered jobs with their Project organisations as a result of this opportunity.
Professional Performance Assessments (PPA)
The PPA takes the form of an interview which gives you the opportunity to demonstrate the professional knowledge and skills you have gained in Wivenhoe House hotel.
Professional Code of Conduct
The Professional Code of Conduct, based on the employability skills required of managers within the hospitality industry, is a key area of your assessment and focuses on attendance, punctuality and team working.
As an Edge Hotel School student you will be issued with a uniform to wear for your shifts in Wivenhoe House and when representing the School externally. You will just need to provide your own white shirts and black shoes.
You will receive written academic feedback electronically following the submission date. There are opportunities to meet with the module tutor or academic mentor to gain further understanding and pointers. On receipt of feedback you should refer to the grade descriptors to understand your mark and what would be needed to improve.
Your experience in the hotel is an important part of your degree and feedback is essential for your future development. Heads of Departments will provide constant feedback via the Competency Report, which uses key benchmarks to monitor your performance and development. This is then used as a point of discussion for your Professional Performance Assessments.
